Caltrain to Present New Rail Safety Video
Caltrain is presenting a video to enhance the railroad's ability to educate people
about how to stay safe around railroad tracks and trains.
Narrated by George Watson, a former anchor and reporter on KTVU News, "On Track
for Safety" also features railroad employees, from engineers and conductors to police
officers, speaking about safe behavior near railroads.
The 12-minute video is scheduled to premiere on Peninsula TV-26 at 5:30 p.m. on
Oct. 26. It will air as part of Pen-TV's Community Connections program hosted by
Dani Gasparini and include comments from Caltrain Board Chair Mike Nevin.
After the initial airing, the video will appear frequently on Pen-TV, which
reaches 170,000 households in San Mateo County. For future air dates, call Pen-TV at
650.637.1936.
Caltrain staff hopes to schedule the video on other San Francisco Peninsula cable
stations, as well as to incorporate it into Operation Lifesaver safety programs
presented at schools and community groups.
Caltrain's video includes footage of the numerous steps that Caltrain has taken to
improve rail safety, including installing high-tech warning systems at grade
crossings and no-trespassing and suicide prevention hotline signs. The safety
campaign also has included stepped-up law enforcement.
Nevin, who appears in the video, emphasizes that safety is a community concern and
that everyone's cooperation in following the rules is needed to avoid injuries or
deaths.
The video was produced in conjunction with Times Two Video Productions of Belmont.
