Caltrain To Rebuild Mountain View Rail Bridge
Beginning April 14, Caltrain will reconstruct a small
rail bridge in Mountain View. The “box-culvert” bridge
crosses Permanente Creek near Farley Street.
The work will be done in two 55-hour work windows
over two weekends.
Crews will work from 11 p.m., Friday, April 14 to 6 a.m.,
Saturday, April 15 and again the following weekend, from
11 p.m., Friday, April 21 to 11 p.m., Saturday, April 22.
Neighbors will hear construction noise from cranes
lifting tracks and bridge panels, heavy equipment
moving gravel and trucks placing asphalt. Portable
light towers, powered by a diesel generator, will be
used for night work.
During the construction trains will “single-track” through
the area. As a result, passengers will board both north-
and southbound trains from the same platforms at the
Mountain View and San Antonio stations. Announcements
about these changes will be made by conductors onboard
trains and at the stations.
The reconstruction of the Permanente Creek bridge is
part of a larger project to upgrade several Caltrain bridges
along the rail line. Many of the railroad bridges are nearly
100 years old and have reached the end of their useful life.
