Caltrain to Reconstruct Railroad Segment in Burlingame

Over the weekend of Oct. 19, Caltrain construction crews will reconstruct and realign tracks between Oak Grove Avenue and North Lane, in Burlingame. The project also will replace timbers and install signals at the intersection of North Lane. This is part of the ongoing Burlingame Caltrain Station construction project.

Construction will take place from Friday evening to early Monday morning. The contractor will work on the northbound track to remove the existing worn asphalt, rails, ties and ballast. Crews will install new drains to channel storm water, layers of hot mix asphalt, concrete to create a stable foundation, new ballast, wood ties and rails.

Impact to Train Service
From approximately 8 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday, the northbound track will be closed for repairs. Trains through the construction area will run on the southbound track in both directions. During this weekend construction, passengers at the Burlingame and the San Mateo stations will board both northbound and southbound trains from the southbound platform. Announcements about this will be made by conductors on board trains and at stations. Regular boarding will resume with the first train on Monday morning.

Impact to Neighbors
Neighbors may hear construction noise from backup alarms on equipment, concrete-cutting saws and jack hammers removing materials, cranes lifting track panels, heavy equipment moving gravel and trucks placing asphalt. Two portable light towers, powered by a diesel generator, will be used for night work as well. The contractor will control dust with a water truck through the right of way. Construction crews will make efforts to work as quickly and quietly as possible to minimize any disturbance to neighbors.

The $21 million reconstruction project at the Burlingame station began in June 2007 and is expected to conclude in time for the city’s centennial in June 2008. For additional information about the Burlingame station construction project, visit www.caltrain.com/burlingame.
