North Lane Weekend Closure for Caltrain Construction
From Friday through Monday, Nov. 9 to 12, the railroad grade crossing at North Lane in Burlingame will be temporarily closed. This work is part of the year-long project to reconstruct the Burlingame Caltrain station platforms.
This weekend’s work will close the northbound track in order to install new concrete pads and to replace worn rails, ties and ballast. Work will take place around the clock from approximately 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9 and continue until about 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12, when the track will be reopened for regular weekday train service.
During the weekend construction, motorists and pedestrians will detour around the closure at Howard Avenue.
Impact to Weekend Train Service
There will be no delays in service due to the construction, however, from Friday evening through Sunday evening, all trains will operate in both directions on a single track in the construction area.
Trains will begin single-tracking about 8 p.m. on Friday and continue through the weekend until the last train on Monday night. As a result, passengers waiting for both northbound and southbound trains at the Burlingame and San Mateo stations will board from the southbound platform. Announcements about this will be made by conductors on board trains and at stations.
Impact to Neighbors
During the temporary closure of North Lane, weekend traffic will detour around the closure at Howard Avenue. Both West and East lanes will remain open, allowing traffic access along either side of the tracks. North Lane will reopen early Monday morning.
Neighbors may hear construction noise from equipment. Two portable light towers, powered by a diesel generator, will be used for night work as well. The contractor will control dust with a water truck. Construction crews will make efforts to work as quickly and quietly as possible to minimize any disturbance to neighbors.
