Caltrain Schedule Info Available on Google Transit

Travelers can now find Caltrain schedule information when they plan their next trip using Google’s Transit Trip Planner. Still in its “beta” design phase, the trip planner currently includes three Bay Area transit properties: Caltrain, BART and the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority.

Using the trip planner, Bay Area transit users can plan a trip using any combination of the three available transit systems. For example, to get to the San Francisco International Airport from downtown Palo Alto, customers are told to take Caltrain from the train station on University Avenue and to transfer to BART in Millbrae. To get from San Francisco to the Great America amusement park in Santa Clara, customers are told to board Caltrain at the San Francisco station and to transfer to the VTA light rail at Mountain View. The VTA light rail will take customers to the Old Ironsides Station on Tasman Drive, which is a five-minute walk from the gates of the park. The site even tells the user how long it will take and how much it will cost.

“This is a great first step toward getting better regional interactive transit trip planning for our customers,” said Caltrain Chief Operating Officer Chuck Harvey. “As more schedules and routes from other Bay Area transit agencies are integrated into the system, we will see this become a very exciting tool for our regional transit users.”

Customers are currently only able to view information from participating agencies. Customers who try to plan trips through areas that require connecting to transit agencies that are not yet part of the Google Transit Trip Planner will see a message telling them that no transit trip option exists. To try the trip planner and to see a complete list of participating transit agencies, visit www.google.com/transit.
