Caltrain Holiday Schedules And Free Rides On New Year's Eve
Get a head start on your New Year’s resolution to reduce your carbon footprint - take Caltrain during the holidays.
Trains will run on a weekday schedule on Christmas Eve (Monday, Dec. 24) and New Year’s Eve (Monday, Dec. 31). Caltrain will operate a Sunday schedule on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. The Sunday schedule offers 28 hourly trains operating between San Francisco and San Jose.
New Year’s Eve, Caltrain will offer free rides after 11 p.m. to encourage New Year’s Eve partygoers to use the train as their designated driver. And to accommodate those who don’t want to miss the midnight festivities, Caltrain is adding three post-midnight, southbound trains to its regular weekday schedule. These extra trains will depart the San Francisco station at 12:45 a.m., 1:30 a.m. and 2 a.m., making all local weekday stops.
Caltrain does not allow open alcohol containers on trains after 9 p.m. following a special event. Passengers who are considerate and responsible may bring open containers on all regular trains before 9 p.m. Disruptive passengers will be asked to detrain.
