Weekend Closure Of North Lane For Caltrain Construction
The railroad grade crossing at North Lane in Burlingame will be temporarily closed from Friday, Feb. 29 to Monday, March 3, so that construction crews can install new concrete pads and replace worn rails, ties and ballast. Work will take place around the clock from approximately 8 p.m. Friday and continue until about 5 a.m. Monday, when the track and street will be reopened.
During the weekend construction, motorists and pedestrians will detour around the closure by using Howard or Oak Grove avenues. The work that will be done this weekend is the second half of the track construction at this intersection, and is expected be the last closure at this intersection, related to this project.
Impact to Neighbors
Neighbors may hear construction noise from equipment. Two portable light towers, powered by a diesel generator, will be used for night work as well. The contractor will control dust with a water truck. Construction crews will make efforts to work as quickly and quietly as possible to minimize any disturbance to neighbors.
Impact to Weekend Train Service
There will be no delays in service due to the construction; however, from Friday evening through Sunday evening trains will operate on a single track through Burlingame and San Mateo. This will result in a temporary change in the boarding and alighting area for all trains. During this period, all trains at the Burlingame station will board from the new northbound platform, and the trains will be stopping further south on the new platform, so passengers should approach the station from Howard Avenue. At the San Mateo station, passengers will board all trains from the northbound platform as well. Announcements about this will be made by conductors on board trains and at stations.
