Caltrain Fare Increase Begins Jan. 1
Caltrain’s new fares go into effect Thursday, Jan. 1. The 25-cent increase to the base fare, with multi-ride tickets and passes adjusted accordingly, will help offset volatile fuel prices and increasing costs.
The increase, which was approved by the Caltrain board in October, will generate approximately $943,500 in additional revenue this fiscal year. The last fare increase was implemented in April 2007.
The new fare structure is currently available on the Caltrain Web site. New pocket timetables that show the new fares are onboard trains.
Caltrain operates 98 weekday trains between San Francisco and San Jose, with commute hour service to Gilroy, and carries an average weekday ridership of more than 44,000. Caltrain is a Proof-of-Payment system, requiring passengers to purchase and/or validate tickets before boarding the train.
