Caltrain Construction and Maintenance: June 26 – July 2
Construction
San Mateo
Work to improve the First, Second and Third avenue crossings in Millbrae will begin Saturday, June 27. The work will take place from Thursday to Tuesday, between the hours of 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.
Throughout the project, at least one lane of the street will remain open. Flagmen will direct traffic and pedestrians around the construction.
Neighbors may hear construction noise from concrete-cutting saws and jack hammers removing concrete, cranes lifting track panels, heavy equipment moving gravel and trucks placing asphalt. Two portable light towers, powered by a diesel generator, also will be used for the work.
The work is part of a larger program to improve grade crossings in San Mateo County. For more information about the project, click

Stockton Avenue
Caltrain will finish installing new sidewalks, curbs, gutters and street lights near the former railroad crossing at Stockton Avenue and Emory Street in San Jose by July 1. The work will be done from Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Two-way vehicular traffic on both streets and pedestrian access to the College Park station will be provided before 9 a.m. and after 3 p.m. Between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., at least one lane of both streets will remain open. Flagmen will direct traffic and pedestrians around the construction.
The improvements will complete the closure of the former crossing, at which time the temporary concrete barricades will be removed.
Signal Optimization Project
Caltrain will begin a $2.8 million project to add additional signals to its signal system. The work will take place at Stockton Avenue in San Jose, Saturday, June 27, to Wednesday, July 1, between the hours of 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. and will require portable light towers powered by a diesel generator and equipment with back-up alarms.
Radio Channel Project
Caltrain also will begin a $2.1 million project to improve the radio communications system that operates the switches on the railroad tracks. This project will add a second radio channel, which will increase the system’s capacity.
Work will take place from Friday, June 26, to Wednesday, July 1, between the hours of 8 p.m. and 4 a.m. at the Tamien station in San Jose.
Maintenance
Caltrain will perform routine maintenance at several locations next week. To avoid delays to passengers, the work will take place Sunday through Thursday from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. There will be some construction noise from equipment used to accomplish the work, but crews will work as quietly as possible.
