Work on Caltrain’s Grade Crossing Improvement Program, which will enhance safety at 25 grade crossings in San Mateo County, continues in Burlingame, Menlo Park and Atherton.

Throughout the project area, at least one lane of the impacted street will remain open. Flagmen will direct traffic and pedestrians around the construction.

Neighbors may hear construction noise from concrete-cutting saws and jack hammers removing concrete, cranes lifting track panels, heavy equipment moving gravel and trucks placing asphalt. Two portable light towers, powered by a diesel generator, also will be used for the work.

Signal Optimization Project
Work continues on a $2.8 million project to add additional signals to the Caltrain signal system. Work will take place Nov. 2-6 between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. in San Mateo and Redwood City.

Radio Channel Project
A $2.1 million project to improve the radio communications system that operates the signals and switches on the railroad tracks is underway. The project will add a second radio channel, which will increase the system’s capacity.

Work will take place Nov. 2-6 between the hours of 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. at several locations near San Francisco and the Diridon and Tamien stations in San Jose.

Wolfe Road Bridge Repair Project, Sunnyvale
Beginning Oct. 8, Sunnyvale closed the Wolfe Road Bridge for repairs. Although the four-lane bridge crosses the Caltrain tracks, there will be no impact to Caltrain service. For more information, see thecity of Sunnyvale Web site.

Maintenance
Caltrain will perform routine maintenance at several locations next week. To avoid delays to passengers, the work will take place Sunday through Thursday from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. There will be some construction noise from equipment used to accomplish the work, but crews will work as quietly as possible. San Francisco to South San Francisco
Sunday, Nov. 1 to Thursday, Nov. 5, crews will weld and grind the switches, and replace worn asphalt, rails, ties and ballast on the tracks between the San Francisco and South San Francisco stations.

San Jose
Sunday, Nov. 1, crews will remove materials stored next to the tracks near the San Jose station.
