Caltrain Construction and Maintenance: Nov. 7 - 13
Construction
Grade Crossing Improvement Project
Work on Caltrain’s Grade Crossing Improvement Program, which will enhance safety at 25 grade crossings in San Mateo County, continues in Menlo Park and Atherton. Work will take place Nov. 7-13 between the hours of 8 p.m. and 4 a.m. at Fair Oaks Lane and Watkins Avenue in Atherton and Encinal and Ravenswood avenues in Menlo Park.
Throughout the project area, at least one lane of the impacted street will remain open. Flagmen will direct traffic and pedestrians around the construction.
Neighbors may hear construction noise from concrete-cutting saws and jack hammers removing concrete, cranes lifting track panels, heavy equipment moving gravel and trucks placing asphalt. Two portable light towers, powered by a diesel generator, also will be used for the work.
Signal Optimization Project
Work continues on a $2.8 million project to add additional signals to the Caltrain signal system. In San Mateo work will take place Nov. 9-13 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. In Redwood City work will take place Nov. 7-8 between the hours of 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., and Nov. 9-13 between the hours of 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Radio Channel Project
A $2.1 million project to improve the radio communications system that operates the signals and switches on the railroad tracks is underway. The project will add a second radio channel, which will increase the system’s capacity.
Work will take place Nov. 9-13 between the hours of 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. at various locations on the right of way.
Maintenance
Caltrain will perform routine maintenance at several locations next week. To avoid delays to passengers, the work will take place Sunday through Thursday from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. There will be some construction noise from equipment used to accomplish the work, but crews will work as quietly as possible.
