With flexible ways to pay, riding Caltrain is easy.  
  • Digitally, Add a Clipper card to your mobile wallet (using Apple Pay or Google Pay) or pay using the Caltrain Mobile app to tap on with ease.  
  • Purchase physical passes at any Caltrain station ticket machine. Additionally, you can purchase Adult Clipper cards or load cash value or other transit agency products to your existing Adult, Senior, RTC or Youth Clipper card.
  • Purchase Caltrain Monthly Parking permits at the tickets machines or Caltrain headquarters. Daily parking is only available through the ticket machine or Caltrain Mobile app.

Caltrain fares are based on the number of zones that a passenger travels through.  

For example, if you travel from SF to Palo Alto station, you’ve traveled three zones.

*VTA-Caltrain Day Pass - Available on the Caltrain Mobile app the Caltrain portion is valid to Zone 3 and costs an additional $7.50 compared to a Caltrain Day Pass. The joint pass is valid on Caltrain through the last train of the night, and on VTA buses and light rail until 3 a.m.

VTA (Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority) offers Caltrain customers with a two-zone or greater Caltrain Monthly Pass free transfers to VTA local, limited stop bus, bus rapid transit and light rail. Discount Fare Categories

Eligible Discount

Full fares will apply to all customers 19 years of age or older except those who qualify for an Eligible Discount or Youth ticket.  Conductors and fare inspectors may request proof of age, eligibility or identity.

Definitions

Senior: Customers 65 years of age or older.

Disabled: Customers with disabilities may ride for the eligible discount fare when they present one of the following:

Regional Transit Connection Discount Card

  • A current Disabled Person Placard Identification card issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles
  • A valid transit discount card issued by another California transit agency which is equivalent to the RTC Discount card
  • Medicare card holders

Medicare cardholder: Customers who have a Medicare card.

Youth

Customers 18 years old or younger. When one or more children four years old or younger are accompanied by one paying adult, only one child will travel free of charge. All other children must travel on Youth tickets.
