Heat Restrictions

Heat Restrictions are triggered once the ambient temperature reaches 95°F, track inspections are required, and trains must reduce speed. Steel tracks expand in high heat and can become both more malleable, but also vulnerable to buckling and warping.

These speed restrictions can cause service delays. We appreciate your patience as we operate trains safely.

Level 1: 95 degrees with a speed of 60 mph for passenger trains and 40 mph for freight trains.

Level 2: 105 degrees with a speed of 50 mph for passenger trains and 30 mph for freight trains.
