Caltrain to Conduct Triennial Customer Survey This Month

Caltrain will begin conducting its Triennial Customer Survey this month as a way to collect data on passenger characteristics, demographics, service satisfaction and sources of information.

Starting on Tuesday and lasting through Sunday, October 23, surveyors from the research firm Corey, Canapary and Galanis will be riding the train to survey riders and collect completed questionnaires.

Findings from the Triennial Survey provide a glimpse into the daily travel patterns of Caltrain’s growing customer base. With this detailed information in hand, Caltrain can make operational decisions on whether service needs to be adjusted to meet the needs of its passengers. The last Triennial Survey, completed in October 2013, gathered feedback from more than 4,700 Caltrain passengers.

The findings from this year’s survey will be presented at a future Board of Directors meeting. Details on past Caltrain Triennial Surveys can be found here.

About Caltrain: Owned and operated by the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board, Caltrain provides commuter rail service from San Francisco to San Jose, with limited commute service to Gilroy. Caltrain has enjoyed more than five years of consecutive monthly ridership increases, surpassing more than 60,000 average weekday riders earlier this year. While the Joint Powers Board assumed operating responsibilities for the service in 1992, the railroad celebrated 150 years of continuous passenger service in 2014. Planning for the next 150 years of Peninsula rail service, Caltrain is on pace to electrify the corridor, reduce diesel emissions by 97 percent by 2040 and add more service to more stations.
