Caltrain to Hold Virtual Public Meeting on Guadalupe River Bridge Replacement Project

Caltrain will host a virtual public meeting to discuss the Guadalupe River Bridge Replacement Project on Thursday, December 10. This meeting will allow local residents and community members to learn more about the project and ask questions to Caltrain staff.

The bridge improvements are needed to ensure the safety of community members and Caltrain passengers, and to prevent riverbank failures. The project is still in the planning stage, with construction expected to begin in 2022. The project will take two years to complete.

The northbound bridge needs to be replaced with a new concrete structure in order to meet current structural design standards and seismic criteria. The southbound bridge was constructed more recently, and only requires an extension on the southern end to reduce river flow speeds and riverbank erosion. Based on the Initial Study, staff determined that the project will not have a significant impact on the environment with implementation of mitigation measures. The project is estimated to cost $33 million, with 80% of the funding being provided by the Federal Transit Administration.
