Caltrain will be conducting track maintenance work over two consecutive weekends at the Charleston Road Grade Crossing in Palo Alto. The work will require the closure of the grade crossing from 8 p.m. Friday, April 13, to 4 a.m. Monday, April 16, and again from 8 p.m. Friday, April 20, to 4 a.m. Monday, April 23.
Vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian traffic will not be able to cross the tracks during this outage. During the closure, Caltrain will establish detour signs for pedestrians and motorists to help with traffic flow. Neighbors may experience construction noise during this time.
The maintenance work will include all new ballast, concrete ties, and rail and grade crossing panels on both tracks to maintain their state of good repair. New pavement and striping will also be included as a part of the maintenance work. These elements will provide a smoother, safer crossing for vehicles, pedestrians and bicyclists.

About Caltrain: Owned and operated by the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board, Caltrain provides commuter rail service from San Francisco to San Jose, with limited commute service to Gilroy. Caltrain enjoyed more than five years of consecutive monthly ridership increases, surpassing more than 65,000 average weekday riders. While the Joint Powers Board assumed operating responsibilities for the service in 1992, the railroad celebrated 150 years of continuous passenger service in 2014. Planning for the next 150 years of Peninsula rail service, Caltrain is on pace to electrify the system, reduce diesel emissions by 97 percent by 2040 and add more service to more stations.
