San Francisco Roadway Bridges Project
Night/Weekend
Work
There is no night or weekend work
scheduled for the San Francisco Roadway Bridges Project.
Weekday
Work
* In
general, all weekday construction activity will occur between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.
on Monday through Friday. Neighbors may experience construction noise during
this time. We apologize for the inconvenience.
22nd
Street Bridge
Monday,
February 13 to Friday, February 17, crews will continue formwork and rebar
installation on the bridge deck.
The closure of 22nd Street
between Iowa Street and Pennsylvania began on Tuesday, April 19, 2016. During the closure, vehicular access
to 22nd Street between Iowa Street and Pennsylvania Avenue will
remain closed during the removal and replacement of the bridge. Detour
signage will be in place to direct vehicular and pedestrian traffic during the
closure.
A temporary pedestrian bridge has been
installed to maintain limited pedestrian access across 22nd Street.
The temporary pedestrian bridge is intended for use by Caltrain customers
accessing the 22nd Street Caltrain Station.
San Carlos Transit Center Project
Night/Weekend Work
There is no night or weekend work
currently scheduled at the San Carlos Transit Center Project.
Weekday Work
Monday, February
13, to Friday, February 17, crews will begin installation of the retaining
wall, including grading, forming and pouring. Neighbors may experience
construction noise during this time. We apologize for the inconvenience. El
Camino Real traffic may also be reduced to one lane during construction
activities. Work may be delayed due to adverse weather conditions.
Some parking
spaces in the Caltrain parking lot and along the eastside of El Camino between
Cherry and Arroyo have been permanently removed as part of the project. Caltrain
customers are encouraged to park at the Belmont Caltrain Station during
construction.
Background
The San Carlos Multi-Modal Transit Center Project (Transit Center) is
located on the west side of the railroad corridor at the site of the existing
San Carlos Caltrain Station. The Transit Center project consists of
transforming the existing San Carlos Caltrain Station parking lot into a
multi-modal transit center that will better serve the community by improving
safety and accessibility between SamTrans fixed route bus services, Caltrain
commuter rail services, local shuttles, pedestrians and bicyclists. For more
information on the project, please visit www.samtrans.com/sctc.
The
Transit Center project is part of the larger mixed-use transit-oriented
development, the San Carlos Transit Village, which is a joint development
between SamTrans and Prometheus Real Estate Group. For information about the San Carlos Transit
Village Project visit: http://cityofsancarlos.org/planning/projects/san_carlos_transit_village/default.asp
Los Gatos Creek Bridge Replacement Project Weekly Update
Night/Weekend
Work
There is no night or weekend work
scheduled for the project at this time.
Weekday
Work
Monday, February 13 to Friday, February 17, crews will continue
to remove vegetation and pothole utilities. Crews will also begin installation
of the access road for the project. Work may be delayed due to adverse weather
conditions.
Background
Caltrain, in cooperation with the City of San Jose, is
preparing to replace the railroad bridge crossing at Los Gatos Creek in
San Jose. The current bridge was built in 1935, and in order to maintain safe
rail operations and meet current seismic safety standards, the bridge must be
replaced. The project will also include installation of a tail track south of
the San Jose Diridon station. The tail track will provide improved operations
at the station and minimize system-wide delays. Construction is expected to be
complete in early 2018.
In order
to maintain regular train service, some activities will be conducted during
nights and weekends, outside of normal train service hours. Neighbors may
experience construction noise and light during these times. We apologize for
any inconvenience this may cause. For more
information on the Los Gatos Creek Bridge Replacement Project, please visit www.caltrain.com/losgatos. For questions about the project, please call
the Caltrain Construction
Hotline at 650.508.7726 or email lgcbridge@caltrain.com.
Peninsula
Corridor Electrification Project
The Peninsula Corridor
Electrification Project (PCEP) is a key component of the Caltrain Modernization
program. The PCEP would electrify the Caltrain Corridor from San Francisco’s
4th and King Caltrain Station to approximately the Tamien Caltrain Station.
The primary purpose of
the Project is to improve Caltrain system performance, reduce long-term
environmental impact by reducing noise, improving regional air quality and
reducing greenhouse gas emissions. An electrified Caltrain system would better
address Peninsula commuters’ vision of increased service and improved
travel times in an environmentally friendly and reliable way. This also
is expected to help accommodate increase system ridership through improved
system operations.

Installation
Communications
Based Overlay Signal System (CBOSS) Positive Train Control (PTC) Project
The CBOSS
PTC Project is an advanced signal system that will equip the corridor and
trains with federally-mandated safety technology and will increase system
capacity to help accommodate future ridership demand.
The
project will monitor and, if necessary, control train movement in the event of
human error. This will increase safety by:
- Eliminating
the risk of train-to-train collisions. - Reducing
risk of potential derailments by enforcing speed limits. - Providing
additional safety for railroad workers on the tracks.
- Improving
grade crossing performance to reduce gate downtime and improve local
traffic circulation.
The CBOSS PTC Project
is also a key component of the Caltrain Modernization Program, which will
electrify the Caltrain Corridor by 2020. An electrified Caltrain will be
cleaner and quieter and will upgrade the system to provide faster and/or more
frequent service to more stations and riders.
To implement the project, Caltrain will be identifying utilities, digging a
small trench and/or boring close to the tracks to install fiber optic cable. In
order to maintain daytime train service, Caltrain will be performing some of
this work at night.
San Francisco
On
February 11 – 12, Caltrain will be conducting safety tests on the corridor as
part of the final phase of implementing the Advanced Signal System Project. To
test the Advanced Signal System, including the roadway crossings, a test train
will run through the corridor between 9:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. Tests are
conducted at night to avoid disruption of most of regular train service and
properly record the results. Neighbors may experience standard gate crossing
noise and horns during this time and we apologize for any inconvenience this
may cause.

Maintenance
Caltrain will perform routine maintenance at several locations next week. To
avoid disruptions to service, the work will mainly take place Saturday through
Friday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. For more information about this type of work,
or call 650.508.7726.
San Francisco
Monday, February
13, to Friday, February 17, crews will resurface rail between the 22nd
Street and Bayshore stations. Resurfacing corrects the alignment of uneven
rails to make them smooth, minimizing the jerks and bumps experienced by
passengers and reducing the mechanical strain on the rails. Neighbors may experience
construction noise during this time. Crews will work as quietly as possible.
San Francisco to
San Jose
Saturday, February
11, to Friday, February 17, crews will pressure wash and perform janitorial
work at Caltrain stations between the San Francisco and Tamien stations.
Monday, February
13, to Friday, February 17, crews will weld and grind rail at various locations
between the San Francisco and Tamien stations. The welding crew uses air
compressors, gas-powered generators, small power tools, electric-arc welders
and propane heaters. Neighbors may experience construction noise during this
time. Crews will work as quietly as possible.
