Meadow Crossing
Closure
The railroad grade crossing at
Meadow Drive in Palo Alto will be closed this weekend for track maintenance
work. The closure will be from Friday, March 17 at 8 p.m. until Monday, March
20 at 4 a.m.
Vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian traffic will not be able to cross the tracks
during this outage. During the closure, Caltrain will establish detour signs
for pedestrians and motorists to help with traffic flow. Neighbors may
experience construction noise during this time. We apologize for the
inconvenience.
The Meadow Drive grade crossing will be reconstructed with new concrete ties,
ballast, and new concrete grade crossing panels replacing the existing rubber
surface. New pavement and striping will also be included as part of the
reconstruction. These elements will provide a smoother, safer crossing for
vehicles, pedestrians and bicyclists. A community mailer with the closure map

22nd
Street Bridge
Monday, March
20 to Friday, March 24, crews will begin work on the crash wall and will pour
the northern barrier wall.
Pedestrian
traffic is expected to be shifted to the northern bridge sidewalk on Wednesday,
March 22. Once pedestrian traffic is shifted, the temporary pedestrian bridge
will be closed and removed.
The closure of 22nd Street between Iowa Street and Pennsylvania began on
Tuesday, April 19, 2016. During the closure, vehicular access to 22nd
Street between Iowa Street and Pennsylvania Avenue will remain closed during
the removal and replacement of the bridge. Detour signage will be in place
to direct vehicular and pedestrian traffic during the closure.
San
Carlos Transit Center Project
Night/Weekend Work
There is no night or weekend work
currently scheduled at the San Carlos Transit Center Project.
Weekday Work
Monday, March 20, to Friday, March 24, crews will backfill
the retaining wall and continue parking lot improvements. Neighbors may
experience construction noise and traffic during this time. We apologize for
the inconvenience. El Camino Real traffic may also be reduced to one lane
during construction activities. Work may
be delayed due to adverse weather conditions.
Some parking spaces in the Caltrain parking lot and
along the eastside of El Camino between Cherry and Arroyo have been permanently
removed as part of the project. Caltrain customers are encouraged to park at
the Belmont Caltrain Station during construction.
Background
The San Carlos Multi-Modal Transit Center
Project (Transit Center) is located on the west side of the railroad corridor
at the site of the existing San Carlos Caltrain Station. The Transit Center
project consists of transforming the existing San Carlos Caltrain Station
parking lot into a multi-modal transit center that will better serve the
community by improving safety and accessibility between SamTrans fixed route
bus services, Caltrain commuter rail services, local shuttles, pedestrians and

The Transit Center project is part of the larger

Los Gatos Creek Bridge
Replacement Project Weekly Update
Partial Lane Closure of Los Gatos Creek Trail in
San Jose
Monday, March 20 to
Friday, March 24, 100 feet of the Los Gatos Creek Trail will be narrowed to one
lane between Auzerais Avenue and Dupont Street in San Jose during construction
hours. Caltrain construction crews will be installing conduit in order to
reroute power to a City streetlight and a billboard at the end of Dupont
Street. This work requires access to the area immediately adjacent to the
trail. Crews will be onsite to assist with traffic control.
Additional trail partial closures will be
needed in the coming months to facilitate the construction on the retaining
wall adjacent to the path.

Work
Monday, March 20 to Friday, March
24, crews will continue to remove vegetation and will remove poles and wires to
facilitate the bridge construction. Crews will continue installation of the access
road for the project.
Background
Caltrain, in cooperation with the
City of San Jose, is preparing to replace the railroad bridge crossing at
Los Gatos Creek in San Jose. The current bridge was built in 1935, and in order
to maintain safe rail operations and meet current seismic safety standards, the
bridge must be replaced. The project will also include installation of a tail
track south of the San Jose Diridon station. The tail track will provide
improved operations at the station and minimize system-wide delays.
Construction is expected to be complete in early 2018.
In order to maintain regular train service, some activities will be
conducted during nights and weekends, outside of normal train service hours.
Neighbors may experience construction noise and light during these times. We

Peninsula Corridor Electrification Project
The Peninsula Corridor Electrification Project (PCEP) is a key
component of the Caltrain Modernization program. The PCEP would electrify the
Caltrain Corridor from San Francisco’s 4th and King Caltrain Station to
approximately the Tamien Caltrain Station.
The
primary purpose of the Project is to improve Caltrain system performance,
reduce long-term environmental impact by reducing noise, improving regional air
quality and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. An electrified Caltrain system
would better address Peninsula commuters’ vision of increased service and
improved travel times in an environmentally friendly and reliable
way. This also is expected to help accommodate increase system ridership
through improved system operations.

to Friday, March 24, crews will pressure wash and perform janitorial work at
Caltrain stations between the San Francisco and Tamien stations.
Monday, March 20,
to Friday, March 24, crews will weld and grind rail at various locations
between the San Francisco and Tamien stations. The welding crew uses air
compressors, gas-powered generators, small power tools, electric-arc welders
and propane heaters. Neighbors may experience construction noise during this
time. Crews will work as quietly as possible.
South San Francisco to San Bruno
Monday, March 20,
to Friday, March 24, crews will resurface rail between the South San Francisco
and Millbrae stations. Resurfacing corrects the alignment of uneven rails to
make them smooth, minimizing the jerks and bumps experienced by passengers and
reducing the mechanical strain on the rails. Neighbors may experience
construction noise during this time. Crews will work as quietly as possible.
