For more than 100 years, runners’ young and old have been pounding the pavement in the Bay Area to take part in one of the biggest races of the year. This coming Sunday, May 21, at 8 a.m., is the 2017 Alaska Airlines Bay to Breakers and Caltrain will be running extra service to get you there.
Register for this fun event and get $5 off by going to Go Caltrain. How can anyone resist walking with bananas in-tandem, or dancing tutus, jogging centipedes, and a coup-of-chickens at the finish line?
Caltrain will run four special northbound trains with limited stops to the race. The first Special train will depart the Palo Alto Caltrain Station at 6:10 a.m. and arrive at the San Francisco Caltrain Station located at Fourth and King streets by 7 a.m.
The second Special train will leave the San Jose Diridon Station at 5:50 a.m. and arrive in San Francisco by 7:10 a.m.; the third Special train will depart the San Jose Diridon Station at 6:00 a.m. and arrive in San Francisco at 7:25 a.m.; and the fourth Special train will leave at 6:15 a.m. from the San Jose Diridon station and arrive in San Francisco at 7:40 a.m. Alcohol will be prohibited on all of the special trains. Also, the special trains will not stop at the Santa Clara Caltrain Station. The race begins at 8 a.m. and the starting line is about 1.4 miles from the San Francisco Caltrain Station. Participants can walk to the starting line or take the Muni’s T-third light-rail service.
Following the race, three express trains to Belmont will depart the San Francisco station at 1:10 p.m., 2:10 p.m. and 3:10 p.m. and then will make regular local weekend stops to San Jose Diridon.

About Caltrain: Owned and operated by the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board, Caltrain provides commuter rail service from San Francisco to San Jose, with limited commute service to Gilroy. Caltrain enjoyed five years of consecutive monthly ridership increases, surpassing more than 60,000 average weekday riders. While the Joint Powers Board assumed operating responsibilities for the service in 1992, the railroad celebrated 150 years of continuous passenger service in 2014. Planning for the next 150 years of Peninsula rail service, Caltrain is on pace to electrify the corridor, reduce diesel emissions by 97 percent by 2040 and add more service to more stations.
