The Caltrain Station at Fourth and King streets in San Francisco sees nearly 768,000 commuters through the terminal annually. That is a great deal of foot traffic passing through the station resulting in the wear and tear of the flooring.
The flooring in the San Francisco station is in poor condition and requires a complete overhaul. It is important and a continual part of Caltrain’s commitment to maintain safety at its facilities. The floor replacement project will be accomplished in two phases. Each Phase will require five working days to complete.
Phase one will begin on Friday, May 5, at 8 p.m. and will be completed on Friday, May 12, at 8 p.m.
Phase two will begin on Wednesday, May 12, at 8 p.m. and will be completed on Wednesday, May 17, at 8 p.m. During this phase Clipper Added Value machine will not be accessible. Customers may use Walgreen’s at the corner of Fourth and Townsend streets.
During each phase, sections of the station will be closed off to pedestrian traffic including some entrances to the station and shops. Commuters are asked to observe signage during this work and allow extra commuting time. We apologize for the inconvenience.

About Caltrain: Owned and operated by the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board, Caltrain provides commuter rail service from San Francisco to San Jose, with limited commute service to Gilroy. Caltrain enjoyed five years of consecutive monthly ridership increases, surpassing more than 60,000 average weekday riders. While the Joint Powers Board assumed operating responsibilities for the service in 1992, the railroad celebrated 150 years of continuous passenger service in 2014. Planning for the next 150 years of Peninsula rail service, Caltrain is on pace to electrify the corridor, reduce diesel emissions by 97 percent by 2040 and add more service to more stations.
