SamTrans and Caltrain Get You to the San Mateo County Fair

The San Mateo County Fair is taking root at the San Mateo County Event Center and SamTrans and Caltrain are your best bet to get to one of summer’s most anticipated events.

SamTrans is one of the sponsors of the fair, which runs from June 9 through 17. Peninsula residents can get to the fair without the stress and worries of traffic by taking public transportation. The fairgrounds are served by SamTrans Routes ECR, 292 and 395, with stops located nearby.

Caltrain also provides service to the fair from both the Hillsdale and Hayward Park stations. After arriving at the Hillsdale station, customers can walk the short distance along a paved path to the fairgrounds main entrance. Riders who depart at Hayward Park can take Concur Drive to Delaware Street.

SamTrans will host a booth near the main entrance on Monday, June 11 (Kids Day) and Tuesday, June 12 (Senior Day), from noon to 3:30 p.m. both days. While supplies last, light-up bracelets and yo-yos will be given out. Play Plinko for a chance to win SamTrans vintage bus T-shirts or tote bags.

SamTrans’ staff will be there to assist with trip planning to all the destinations accessible via bus and train. The fair opens at noon on both days. The SamTrans go-kart bus will be on display on Kid’s Day.

Due to PG&E pipeline work near the San Mateo County Event Center, people going to the fair, June 11-15, will encounter vehicle and foot traffic detours near the Hillsdale Caltrain Station. Please plan for this when driving through the area to access a Caltrain parking lot or when walking to the fairgrounds from the Hillsdale station.

About Caltrain: Owned and operated by the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board, Caltrain provides commuter rail service from San Francisco to San Jose, with limited commute service to Gilroy. Caltrain enjoyed five years of consecutive monthly ridership increases, surpassing more than 65,000 average weekday riders. While the Joint Powers Board assumed operating responsibilities for the service in 1992, the railroad celebrated 150 years of continuous passenger service in 2014. Planning for the next 150 years of Peninsula rail service, Caltrain is on pace to electrify the corridor, reduce diesel emissions by 97 percent by 2040 and add more service to more stations.
