Transit District to Livestream All Board Meetings

In an effort to increase public access to meetings and to keep riders better informed, the Board of Directors meetings for SamTrans, Caltrain and the San Mateo County Transportation Authority will begin live-streaming its meetings this week.

The meetings will be live-streamed by a cloud-based system serviced by Granicus.

SamTrans did a soft launch of the video system during its April Board meeting and will live-stream at its May meeting today at 2 p.m. Caltrain and the Transportation Authority Board will debut its live-streaming video option this Thursday. The following are links to the individual Board meetings:

“As our world is becoming increasingly interconnected, it is our responsibility to make it easier for the public to stay aware of the work we do,” said SamTrans General Manager/CEO Jim Hartnett. “We hope that by live-streaming our board meetings, we enhance government transparency and encourage more public participation.”

The SamTrans Board of Directors meets at 2 p.m. on the first Wednesday of the month; Caltrain Board meets at 10 a.m. on the first Thursday; and the SMCTA Board meets at 5 p.m. on the first Thursday. All meetings will be video archived on each of the agency’s website.

About Caltrain: Owned and operated by the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board, Caltrain provides commuter rail service from San Francisco to San Jose, with limited commute service to Gilroy. Caltrain has enjoyed five years of consecutive monthly ridership increases, surpassing more than 60,000 average weekday riders. While the Joint Powers Board assumed operating responsibilities for the service in 1992, the railroad celebrated 150 years of continuous passenger service in 2014. Planning for the next 150 years of Peninsula rail service, Caltrain is on pace to electrify the corridor, reduce diesel emissions by 97 percent by 2040 and add more service to more stations.
