Buses to replace Caltrain service following collision in San Bruno
Caltrain will be operating bus-bridge service between South San Francisco and Millbrae Stations for Thursday’s evening commute and Friday morning’s commute, following today’s collision between a train and on-track equipment in San Bruno. Passengers should consider other transportation options by visiting 511.org.
SamTrans buses will carry passengers between the impacted stations until at least 4 p.m. on Friday. For the rest of the system, Caltrain will continue to operate under its regular weekday schedule. Passengers traveling to and from those stations should expect service delays as a result of the bus-bridge.
Just before 10:40 a.m. on Thursday, a Southbound Caltrain train carrying 75 passengers was involved in a collision with on-track equipment. As a result, 13 people were injured, including two Caltrain employees. None of the injuries are life-threatening. The collision also led to systemwide delays.
The National Transportation Safety Board has begun an investigation into today’s incident, and Caltrain is assisting with that inquiry.
“Our deepest thoughts and sympathies are with all those who were injured today,” said Caltrain Acting Executive Director Michelle Bouchard. “Caltrain’s core values have always prioritized the safety of our passengers, employees and the communities we serve, and we are deeply disappointed that those standards were not met today. We have a long history of providing safe and reliable service and we are committed to working closely with the NTSB and other regulators to determine the cause of today’s incident. We will restore full Caltrain service as quickly and safely as possible.”
Passengers can receive all relevant service updates by following @CaltrainAlerts on Twitter and by checking the Caltrain Facebook page and Caltrain.com.
The agency will release more information on the incident and its subsequent investigation as details become available.
