Overview
The Castro Street Grade Separation Project, a partnership of Caltrain, the City of Mountain View and the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority, will improve safety, capacity and multimodal access to Caltrain’s Mountain View Station, the larger Mountain View Transit Center, and Downtown Mountain View.
The project will close the Castro Street crossing of the railroad tracks. The project will also construct pedestrian and bicycle undercrossings under Central Expressway and the Caltrain tracks, offering safe and easy access for residents and office workers to Mountain View’s vibrant downtown.
PROJECT ELEMENTS
- Construction of a new ramp connecting W Evelyn Ave and Shoreline Blvd to provide an alternate route for vehicles
- Closure to vehicles of the at-grade (i.e. street level) crossing of Castro Street across the Caltrain tracks
- Construction of undercrossings and vertical circulation (meaning stairs, ramps, and/or elevators) to allow pedestrians and cyclists to cross from the north side of Central Expressway and the Moffett Boulevard community to the Transit Center and Downtown Mountain View
- An enhanced bicycle connection along W Evelyn between the Shoreline Trail and the Transit Center
