Caltrain’s long history of passenger service on the Peninsula and its ambitious plans for the future were highlighted earlier this month on an episode of the “World’s Greatest!...” a television program that airs on the Ion network. The “World’s Greatest!...” show bills itself as an “edutainment” program—both educational and entertaining—that focuses on businesses, organizations and individuals providing outstanding products and services.
This summer, “World’s Greatest!..” crews captured footage of train operations and interviewed key members of the agency for the three-minute segment, which aired earlier this month on Ion Television. The episode featuring Caltrain is available on YouTube.
The segment includes interviews with Caltrain General Manager/CEO Jim Hartnett and Deputy CEO Chuck Harvey. The piece touches upon the vital part that Caltrain plays in the Bay Area’s public transit network, particularly its role transporting passengers to and from Silicon Valley, the birthplace of innovation in America.
The Caltrain Modernization Program—a transformative project that will electrify the railway to provide quieter, cleaner, more frequent and speedier train service to more riders—is also praised in the video. Each “World’s Greatest!...” episode is 30 minutes long and feature pieces on several different topics and subjects.

About Caltrain: Owned and operated by the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board, Caltrain provides commuter rail service from San Francisco to San Jose, with limited commute service to Gilroy. Caltrain has enjoyed five years of consecutive monthly ridership increases, surpassing more than 60,000 average weekday riders earlier this year.
